Carmel Murphy

B.Soc.Sc., C.Q.S.W    |     CORU No.: SW002954 Carmel has built her career by focusing on work with children and families. This is work about which she feels passionate. Through her work as a Guardian ad Litem for vulnerable children Carmel’s practice is child-centered because helping children is her focus.  She is intimately familiar with children’s issues not only as a Guardian ad Litem, but also as a result of her experiences as a social worker, a manager and mother of a grown family. While she has extensive experience working solely as a Guardian ad Litem for the past decade, she has always been involved in child welfare issues having worked as a medical social worker, a mental health social worker before moving to the field of statutory child protection first as a practitioner and laterally as social work manager.  Carmel views child welfare as an important aspect of civil rights. Having worked at all levels of the Irish Court system up to and including the Supreme Court, Carmel is a skilled professional who believes in working in close partnership with assigned professionals, parents and other involved persons in the best interest of the child.  The success of this approach is evident in the multiple successful interventions she has delivered over the past ten years in her role as a Court appointed Guardian ad Litem.
